APPLIOATION FILED JUNE 21.1005.
A rf 551-25. I \/E TU I i I g 014 vgta [av/K9 3 C y K STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR S. SAUNDERS, 01* BROCK'ION, MASSACHUSICT'IS.
SLIPPER.
The present invention has for its object. to
devise a novel form of shoe of the variety commonly designated and known as a shpper, which will involve a light, cheap and open construction, and which will admitof adjusting the slipper to the foot, both as rcgards length and width, to secure comfort and prevent annoying movement of the slip- E per -upon the foot.
preferred.
In accordance with this invention the slipper or like form of shoe has a removable vamp portion and a vamp extension surrounding the vampspace, both being spaced, 5
and fastening means for connecting the parts and admitting of their relative adjustment, width of the slipper may be varied. The quarters of the slipper whereby-the length and have extensions projected beyond the edge of the said vamp extension and adapted to overlap an upper extension of the removable the uarters extensions adapted to be secured. tening for the parts.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specifications: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a slipper embodying the invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the slipper having the removable vamp disconnected at one edge and end and turned up Ward; Fig. 3 is a. detail view tion of the slipper, the lace being loosened; and Fig. 4 is a cross section of the slipper on the line a-b of Fig. 1.
Corresponding and like to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
y The body of the slipper is designated by the numeral 10 and as shown the sole and upper are preferably constructed of the same piece of material, it being understood that the slipper may be soled and heeled in the accustomed manner, if so desired; however, for 'generalusage the construction illustrated is The frontportion of the upper is open andtthe spat-e receiving the removable vam 11 has a continuous vamp extension 2, Whic surrounds he toe and the side portions of the upper adjacent to the toe and at each Specification of Letters Patent.

side of the vamp space. The quarters 3 have forward extensions 4 which project beyond the edge of thevamp extension 2 so as to overlap the upper extension 5 of the va n 1 1.
A series of openings 14 are provided a ong the edge of the vamp extension 2 and a corresponding series of openings 15 are formed in the edge portion of the vamp 11, said openings 14 and a lace 12 by means of which the vamp 11 and the vamp extension 2 are adjustably connected together. A space exists be-' tween the removable vamp and the vamp 4 extension, thereby providing for variation in the width and length of the slipper within certain limits without producing a welt or overlapping of the edge portions of the parts 11 and 2 which would result in annoying and painful pressure upon the foot. The removable vamp 11 is formed with an upper extension 5 which tapers in width and is adapted to underlap the extensions 4 of the quarters, said extensions being provided along their edges with openings 19 to receive end portions of the lace 12 by means of which they are co'nne'ct ed when the. slipper is worn.
The quarters 3 are separatedat the rear by means of an opening 18, and openings 17 i are provided near the ends of the quarters to receive a lace 13 employed as fastening means for connecting the quarters after the shoe has been slipped upon the foot. The lace 13 and the separation of the quarters at the rear of the slipper provide for adjusting the slipper to the foot of the wearer so as to 1 ment of the slipper upon the foot when the j wearer is moving about.
By having the quarters extensions 4 overlap the extension 5 of the removable vamp, ,the said extension 5, which is tapered as j shown and of less width than the removable vamp is confined to the foot and gives to the j slipper or shoe a neat and comfortable appearance at the instep and prevents the knot and the upper forward portion of the quarj tcrs pressing into the foot. By means of the construction above de 1 scribed, it is obvious that the portion of the lacing which connects the extensions of the quarters together over the reduced extension of the removable vamp, may be un 1 laced in order to take the slipper off, without disturbing the remaining portion of the lac- 15 being adapted to receive' snugly 'lit about the heel and prevent move the slipper to hold the removable vamp thereon, erly adjusted.
after said vamp has been once prop- Having thus desprilied the invention,
what is claimed as,new"is:
A sliplper having its front portion open and provide with a continuous extension surrounding the vamp space and having the.
quarters extending past theedges of said vampv extension, a removable vamp fitting vamp extension and the inner extensions of the quarters having eyelets along their edges, I
' w ns?" the vamp extension 'being'devoid ofeyelets and a continuous lace adjustab ly connecting the vamp and said vamp extension to admit of varying the Width and-lengthof the slip 20 per and also adaptedto be passed through 4 the inner extensions of the quarters to secure the sameover the .-'reduced extension ofthe A vamp.
In testimon'ywhereof I have signed my 25' name to this specification in the two subscribing Witnesses.
