A SECURING STRAP ARRANGEMENT
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a securing strap arrangement for releasably securing two articles to one another.
Any reference hereinafter to an item of clothing must be interpreted sufficiently broadly to include footwear.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
According to a first aspect of the invention there is provided a securing strap arrangement for releasably securing two articles to one another, the securing strap arrangement including:
a strap defining a first end region and a second end region;
a link defining a loop, that is attached to the first article;
first strap securing means that is attached to the second article for removably securing the first end region of the strap to the second article, in use; and
second strap securing means that is attached to the second article for removably securing the second end region of the strap to the second article, in use;
the first and second articles being releasably secured to one another by removably securing the first end region of the strap to the first strap securing means, feeding the strap through the loop in the link and folding it back, and removably securing the second end region of the strap to the second strap securing means.
The first strap securing means may comprise a fixed strap securing formation that is fixedly secured to the second article and an inner side of a hinged flap that is hingedly connected to the second article in an arrangement wherein the hinged flap can be displaced, in use, towards the fixed strap securing formation so as to removably secure the first end region of the strap between them.
The second strap securing means may be in the form of a second strap securing formation defined on an outer side of the hinged flap.
The strap may define an article securing formation on each of the two sides of the strap at its first end region for securing one side of one side of the strap to the fixed strap securing formation and the other side of the strap to the inner side of the hinged flap.
The strap may define an article securing formation at its second end region on said other side thereof for securing the strap to the second strap securing formation.
Said one side of the strap at the second end region thereof may define an area that can be marked with information in the form of one of a colour, promotional information or trade mark.
The fixed strap securing formation, the inner side of the hinged flap and the second strap securing formations may comprise one of hook and loop formations of VELCRO, and the article securing formations of the strap may be in the form of complementary hook and loop formations of VELCRO.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided an item of clothing including a first article in the form of a first flap and a second article in the form of a second flap, the item of clothing including a securing strap arrangement as defined and described hereinabove, wherein
the first strap securing means is attached to the second flap for removably securing the first end region of the strap to the second flap, in use;
and the second strap securing means is attached to the second flap for removably securing the second end region of the strap to the second second, in use;
the first and second flaps being releasably secured to one another by removably securing the first end region of the strap to the first strap securing means, feeding the strap through the loop in the link and folding it back, and removably securing the second end region of the strap to the second strap securing means.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Further features of the invention are described hereinafter by way of a non- limiting example of the invention, with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying diagrammatic drawings. In the drawings:
Figure 1 shows a schematic side view of four securing strap arrangements in accordance with the first aspect of the invention, arranged on a an item of clothing in the form of a boot, in accordance with the second aspect of the invention;
Figure 2 shows a schematic plan view of one side of a strap of one of the securing strap arrangements of Figure 1 ;
Figure 3 shows a schematic plan view of the other side of the strap of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 shows an end view of one of the securing strap arrangements shown in Figure 1.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
With reference to the drawings, a securing strap arrangement in accordance with the first aspect of the invention is designated generally by reference numeral 10. Four securing strap arrangements 10 are arranged on an item of clothing in the form of a boot 12, in accordance with the second aspect of the invention. The boot 12 includes a first boot flap 14, a second boot flap 16, and the four securing strap arrangements 10. Each securing strap arrangement 10 includes a strap 18, a link 20, first strap securing means in the form of a first strap securing formation 22, and second strap securing means in the form of a second strap securing formation 24.
Each securing strap arrangement 10 is adapted for use in releasably securing the boot flaps 14 and 16 of the boot 12 to one another.
The strap 18 defines a first end region 26 and a second end region 28. The strap 18 has a first side 30 (see Figure 3) and a second side 32 (see Figure
2). The first side 30 has a securing formation in the form of loop formations
34 of VELCRO fixed to the entire side 30. The second side 32 of the strap 18
has a securing formation in the form of loop formations 34 of VELCRO fixed to the first end region 26 thereof only. The second side 32 defines an area 36 at the second end region 28 of the strap 18, which may be marked with promotional material, a trade mark, or one or more colours, etc.
The link 20 is in the form of a buckle defining two slots 40 and 42. The link 20 is attached to the first boot flap 14 by means of a loop 38 of fabric. The loop 38 of fabric is stitched to the first boot flap 14 at one end 46 of the loop 38 and extends through the slot 42 in the link 20, thereby capturing it.
The first and second strap securing formations 22 and 24, together comprise each of four strips 44 of VELCRO defining hook formations 46 which are configured to releasably engage the loop formations 34 of VELCRO of the strap 18, in use. Each strip 44 comprises a fixed portion 48 which is stitched to an outer side of the second boot flap 16 and a flap portion 50 which is hingedly connected to the fixed portion 48. The fixed portion 48 defines hook formations 46 of VELCRO on an outer side thereof whereas the flap portion 50 has hook formations 46 of VELCRO defined on both the inner and outer sides thereof.
The first strap securing formation 22 has two parts comprising the fixed portion 48 and the inner side of the flap portion 50, whereas the second strap formation securing comprises the outer side of the flap portion 50.
In use, the boot flaps 14 and 16 are releasably secured to one another by means of the four securing strap arrangements 10. This is done by removably securing the first end region 26 of the strap 18 to the first strap securing formation 22, feeding the strap 18 through the slot 40 in the link 20 and folding it back, and removably securing the second end region 28 of the strap 18 to the second strap securing formation 24. The first end region 26 of the strap 18 is thus secured to the first strap securing formation 22 by sandwiching the first end region 26 between the inner side of the flap portion 50 of the strip 44 and the fixed portion 48 of the strip 44. The second end region 28 of the strap
18 is thereafter secured to the outer side of the flap portion 50 of the strip 44 (i.e the second strap securing formation 24).
The securing strap arrangements 10 thus permit straps 18 to be removed and replaced with straps having different colours, promotional information, trade marks etc. marked thereon, thereby to change the appearance of the boot 12. Furthermore, the securing strap arrangement 10 allows for easy replacement of damaged straps 18. It is particularly advantageous for motorcyclists to be able to change the straps of their motorcycling boots to match their make of motorcycle or to conform to their motorcycle club.
